Me and my family are on vacation from Rochester NY and we always visit the zoo where every we go and we loved it. It rained while we were there but we walked in the rain and still enjoyed it!

Highlights
  • See Africa’s lions up close at the new habitat with three unique viewpoints
  • Explore the rainforest home of one of North America’s largest gorilla groups
  • Go behind the scenes with your favorite animals in Wild Encounters programs
  • Ride the all-new Safari Express aboard the Norfolk Southern Zoo Train
Full description
A proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the gold standard for animal care and welfare, Zoo Atlanta has a mission to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education, and engaging experiences. The Zoo is home to hundreds of animals representing more than 200 species from around the world, many of them endangered or critically endangered. Recent transformations include a newly updated African lion complex, opened in April 2025, and the state-of-the-art Rollins Health Center, completed in 2024 and now available for behind-the-scenes tours.
Immerse yourself in the legendary landscape of the African Savanna, home to some of the planet’s most iconic wildlife, including African elephants, giraffes, zebras, ostrich, warthogs, and meerkats. Highlights include a newly upgraded African lion complex, adjacent to a redesigned habitat for southern white rhinos.
Visit two of the largest populations of great apes in North America, including gorillas and orangutans.
Explore the climate-controlled, indoor wonders of Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, home to more than 50 species.
Go behind the scenes to meet animals and their care teams in Wild Encounters.
See animal adaptations in action in dynamic wildlife presentations. Meet friendly goat and sheep ambassadors in the contact yard.
Take a ride on the Endangered Species Carousel and the all-new Safari Express aboard the Norfolk Southern Zoo Train.
Go on an aerial adventure on Treetop Trail and Treetop Tykes Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente. Venture deep into the wild without leaving the Zoo at the Wild Explorer VR Theater.
Watch the kids play in the KIDZone Playground and in Splash Fountain (open April through October).

Service Animal Policy: Zoo Atlanta’s Service Animal Admittance Policy meets the requirements defined by law under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Zoo Atlanta’s Service Animal Admittance Policy defines service animals as dogs or miniature horses who are trained to perform a specific task for an individual with a disability. The animals that were on exhibit were nice to see. Several enclosures being updated for the summer, so those animals were not available.

Beautiful Zoo. Saw many animals that I’d not seen before. The pandas are amazing! White rhinos and silver back gorillas, too. ❤️ ALL of the concession stands were closed so that was NOT GOOD. Other than that, it was a nice attraction.

Excellent zoo! World-class! The animals looked very happy and healthy and well-cared for, and the grounds were immaculate and clean. Very good selection of animals from around the world (pandas, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, lions, tigers, zebras, etc.)---and good information about the animals. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful zoo staff. Highly recommend visiting!!
